The Community

The Glassell Park Recreation Center Complex is a community hub on the weekends, featuring baseball and soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, children’s play areas, barbeque pits and picnic areas.

Neighbors also come together to tend the Glassell Park Community Garden, which is close to Fletcher Drive Elementary and the Washington Irving Magnet Middle School. Other highly rated schools include Alliance Leichtman Levine Family Foundation Environmental Science High School, Sotomayor Arts & Sciences Magnet, and Glassell Park Elementary School, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Rio de Los Angeles Park on the southern edge of the neighborhood has wonderful hiking paths and is another hub for youth sports and community events. With a population of only 26,582, Glassell Park feels like a close-knit village just ten minutes north of downtown Los Angeles.
