In the Tri-Valley area just over the eastern hills of the San Francisco Bay Area, the city of Dublin was recently ranked #7 in Money Magazine’s “Best Places to Live”, and for good reason. Dublin sits at the intersection of the 580 and 680 freeways, making it very accessible to commuters who work in the South or East Bay, yet provides a tranquil suburban setting to come home to.

Named Dublin for the large number of Irish settlers here in the 1800’s, the city now has a diverse population of close to 73,000 people. Surrounded by rolling hills with endless hiking and outdoor recreation activities, and with 260 clear sunny days per year, Dublin is an ideal location for playing golf, relaxing with the family, or going for a weekend camping trip. This safe, friendly bedroom community receives A+ grades for its excellent public schools, is full of beautiful parks, and offers a diverse range of restaurants and shops.

The Community

Dublin is a gem for both urban commuters and families seeking smaller town life. The local BART station and Wheels bus system connect workers to cities around the area, and many tech firms in Silicon Valley provide commuter buses for their employees to bring them to work via the carpool lane.

Dublin-based tech firms and healthcare facilities offer many employment opportunities in town as well. Evenings and weekends can be spent at the weekly farmers market, hiking the hills, playing sports in the parks, and enjoying the waterslides at The Wave, Dublin’s huge waterpark (which even offers Kids’ Nights Out with pizza and games so parents can go to dinner and a movie.)

Dublin Unified School District has seven elementary schools, one K-8 school, two middle schools, and one public and one alternative high school, all maintaining a low student-to-teacher ratio. You’ll get to know your neighbors at one of the city’s 20 public parks, or at the annual Saint Patrick’s Day festival that brings out the whole community.

The Culture

Dublin is known for its incredible public parks. You can learn the history of the town’s early settlers at Heritage Park, a 10-acre park with preserved buildings from the 1850s, attend a summer concert at Emerald Glen, and play sand volleyball at Ted Fairfield Park.

Dublin’s diversity can be seen in its broad array of grocery stores, from Whole Foods and Sprouts to Kamal Spices Indian Grocery and Sahara Mediterranean Market. Stoneridge Shopping Center offers all of the big stores, or you can browse the aisles at Daiso Japan Variety Store or hunt for treasures at vintage shops. People of different religious traditions will be at home in Dublin, with a range of churches, the Sri Panchamukha Hanuman Hindu Temple, and mosques and synagogues close by in Pleasanton.

Community events like movie nights with food trucks bring neighbors together, and every December there is a huge holiday light display at Widmer World that brings visitors from around the Tri-Valley area.

Lifestyle

Take a morning hike through the woods on the Martin Canyon Creek Trail or meander the peaceful trails at Tassajara Creek Regional Park where you may even spot some deer and wild quail. Play a round of golf at Dublin Ranch Golf Course, followed by a brunch of Ube pancakes and bottomless French Roast at Denica’s Real Food Kitchen. Take the kids to race the indoor go-kart track at K1 Speed, where you can watch the action from one of the plush leather couches in their lounge.

For some outdoor play, families love the myriad of options at Emerald Glen Park, including soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, a playground and splash pad, and a beautiful rose garden. Take your pooch to Dougherty Hills Dog Park, then enjoy cocktails and burgers at Lazy Dog Restaurant and Bar’s “Happiest Hour”. In the evening, see a movie at Regal Hacienda Crossings theaters featuring IMAX, ScreenX, and RPX technology, or play softball on the lighted fields at Fallon Sports Park. And if you live in Dublin, weekends at the beach in Santa Cruz, the mountains of Yosemite, or the shops in San Francisco are just a couple of hours away.
