When the silent film industry built a studio in Southern California in the early 1920s, the neighborhood that grew around it became known as “Studio City”. That original studio is now CBS Studio Center, the area's largest employer.

Some of the television shows that filmed here were Gunsmoke, Gilligan's Island, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Yet despite its name, Studio City is actually a neighborhood of Los Angeles, just over the hill from Hollywood and bordered by Sherman Oaks, Valley Village, Toluca Lake, Universal City, and the Hollywood Hills.

Studio City's quiet residential streets draw those seeking privacy, and its central location makes it just close enough to the urban bustle, creating a perfect balance whether or not you're a celebrity!

Studio City is referred to as the "Jewel of the Valley" for its fantastic central location and thriving artistic community. The area's culture revolves around creativity, whether it's for television and film or painting, drawing, and writing, and many creatives will be found working on their first drafts in iconic cafes like Alfred Coffee or Aroma Coffee & Tea Company.

Lifestyle

Get up and get creating is the Studio City lifestyle. Work on that screenplay over an iced Turkish at Philz or take a meeting over a Gibraltar at M Street Coffee next door in Sherman Oaks. Fuel yourself up with an açaí bowl at the Harvest Bar, or on a day off, grab a leisurely breakfast with friends at Muffin Can Stop Us.

To clear your mind for inspiration, head to Wilacre Park and hike the Fryman trail for a great workout and panoramic views or stroll through the vegetable and craft stands at the Sunday Farmers’ Market.

Visual artists will love the selection of brushes at nearby Carter Sexton Artists Materials, which also offers painting classes. Collectors will enjoy searching for a vintage treasure at Trove, and thrill-seekers of all ages will have a blast on the rides and attractions at Universal Studios next door.

With restaurants galore, foodies from around Los Angeles flock to Studio City for sushi at Michelin-star Asanebo (on the acclaimed "Sushi Row"), the exquisite seasonal menu at always-bustling The Stix Chow House, Uzbek food at Mazza, or a romantic dinner on the patio at Firefly. All of the best things in life can be found in Studio City.
