The Community

A socioeconomically and ethnically diverse city, Modesto is comprised of families who have lived there for decades alongside newly transplanted Bay Area folks seeking more affordable housing. The median age of its residents is 35.6, leaning younger than the national average, making it a great place for families and young professionals. Modesto has good public schools and is close to Cal State Stanislaus in the neighboring city of Turlock. Many people also come here to work in the agricultural industry, and many of the local farms, such as Dutch Hollow, provide fun activities for families like pumpkin picking in the fall, tulips in the spring, petting zoos, and craft fairs. Modesto residents also support their local growers at the Certified Farmers Market downtown on Thursdays and Saturdays where friendly neighbors say hello over bunches of organic cilantro.
