The greater Phoenix area was originally inhabited by the Hohokum people, whose innovative irrigation systems enabled them to create the first major urban civilization in the Salt River Valley. The art and innovations of the Hohokum and other native peoples are prominent in the city’s design and museums, and in 1868, the area was named “Phoenix '' as the new city rose from the ruins of the former civilization.
Now called the “Valley of the Sun'', Phoenix is a mecca for retirees, golfers, tech professionals, Millennials, and young families looking for a more laid-back lifestyle, world-class golf courses, a growing job market, and great schools. In fact, with all of its amazing amenities and affordable homes, Phoenix attracted more new residents than any other city in the U.S. from 2016 to 2019.
